It was about a week ago it was announced that rookie wide receiver, Kevin White, would be out indefinitely with shin surgery.    The answer to replace Brandon Marshall and his insane production was supposed to be White’s and a few other guys jobs.  Instead it is entirely possible he may not play this year.   Fast forward another week and more bad news has come to light.   After slogging through week 2 of the preseason, which while the Bears did win the game, they spoiled a number of good individual performances by committing awful penalties.

Now Jeremiah Ratliff, who Vic Fangio recently called his best defensive lineman and had 6.5 sacks last year, is suspended for the first 3 games of the regular season.   Ratliff is one of the few guys on the team who actually has experience in the 3-4 due to his days in Dallas.   The suspension is coming from a January 22, 2013 incident in which Ratliff was arrested for crashing his pickup truck into an 18-wheeler.  So this is not a new incident but considering no one knew if Ratliff would actually play in 2013 due to his injuries and his bizarre back and forth situation with Jerry Jones and upper management with the Cowboys, it makes sense that the suspension is happening now.    The depth behind Ratliff is paper thin.  A bunch of guys changing positions, rookies, or guys let go by other teams.  Will Sutton, Ego Ferguson, Cornelius Washington, Brandon Dunn, Jarvis Jenkins and Terry Williams will be asked to fill the void.   Out of that group probably only Ferguson and Jenkins were locks to make the team.   Now the Bears will have to keep a few more of those guys just to make it through the first 3 weeks of the season.   The Bears play Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer and Russell Wilson the first 3 weeks of the season.   If the Bears can not execute a pass rush without Ratliff, those games may resemble the Marc Trestman era that we have still burning in our heads.
