The Chicago Bears have announced they have signed S Sherrod Martin and OT Nick Becton, and they have also released LB John Timu and P Spencer Lanning according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com.   Martin was with the team during training camp but failed to make the roster during final cuts.  Antrell Rolle is still on crutches due to his ankle injury so Martin was resigned.   From what I saw during the preseason, Martin appeared to grasp Vic Fangio’s scheme fairly well and he can also help on special teams.  Becton was on the Saints active roster last year and was brought in to provide offensive line depth since the Bears placed center Will Montgomery on injured reserve today with a broken fibula.  The move could also signal the Bears are now going to make rookie Hronnis Grasu active during game days now since an interior lineman was not signed.   Grasu was inactive the first 4 weeks.  After Will Montgomery broke his fibula on the third play of the game versus the Raiders, the Bears went with Matt Slauson at center and Patrick Omameh  at left guard and I expect that to continue.
