Jimmy Clausen was cut today by the Bears, his job will be taken by QB David Fales, who was promoted from the practice squad. Clausen has been the Bears backup quarterback since last year when he beat out the immortal Jordan Palmer for the job. He has played in six games and has thrown for 407 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions during his time with the Bears. Since starting a game in late September in which Clausen threw for a whopping 63 yards, Clausen has done little except to start to grow a really cool porn mustache and be called the worst backup quarterback in the NFL by several media outlets. This move, however, has more to do with Bears 6th round pick in last year’s draft David Fales out of San Jose State than Clausen. Several clubs were looking to sign Fales off the Bears practice squad including former Bears coach Marc Trestman and the Ravens (who drafted Fales) because the Ravens lost starting QB Joe Flacco last night. The Rams also lost QB Case Keenum to a concussion yesterday. Fales has spent so much time the last 2 years bouncing between the Bears active roster, practice squad and brief periods of unemployment, he probably has motion sickness. Fales has however looked good in the preseason when he has gotten a chance to play, which is more than you can say for Clausen with the exception of the killer mustache.
