Bears Tight End Martellus Bennett was placed on injured reserve today by the Chicago Bears with a rib injury, ending his season.   Bennett’s injury seems eerily similar in what happened last year with Brandon Marshall and the Bears.   Marshall was injured late in the year versus the Cowboys and probably could have played the last game or two but the Bears placed him on injured reserve anyway.   Marshall was later traded this offseason.    Bennett may not be traded but he maybe cut.  Bennett has one year remaining on his contract. $5.085M base, $100K workout bonus, $1.125 prorated bonus. $5.185M savings.

Bennett was the Bears leading receiver this year before injuries did him in.  He finishes the year with 53 catches for 439 yards and 3 touchdowns.  He also fumbled twice.  Bennett made the Pro Bowl last year when he finished with 90 catches for 916 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Housler meanwhile has been around since 2011 when he was a sometimes starter with the Arizona Cardinals until 2014.  He signed with the Cleveland Browns this year, played  6 games for them, had 1 catch and was promptly cut.   Look for him to do little else other than backup Zach Miller at this point.

In other Bears news, The also signed QB Matt Blanchard to the practice squad and terminated the practice squad contract of QB Justin Worley.   @djdurkin  According to Dan Durkin of CBS Chicago.

Finally (for now), announced that T Tayo Fabuluje has been removed from the reserve/suspended list, but has a roster exemption.
