The Fire has improved since their first match of the season, but they still have much to improve on. Saturday’s match against eastern conference leaders Columbus Crew ended 1-0. Johan Kappelhof was back in the line-up after his red card suspension, but Juninho was now missing from the midfield with his red card suspension against Montreal Impact. Velko Paunović used a 3-5-2 formation, Pauno started Michael de Leeuw on the wings with David Accam and Nemanja Nikolic up top. David Accam was rather quiet this match, someone else who was quiet but was a key play was Dax McCarty. After the match, Dax McCarty had received the man of the match having 83% passing accuracy and making three key passes with one assisting Nemanja Nikolic to score the game winner and make it his second goal of the season. Bastian Schweinsteiger was a huge part of the defense having four clearances but also was quiet compared to his debut against Montreal Impact. Chicago Fire played well first half but then second half they kind of fell off. Columbus Crew Defended very well second half and kept the attack going making sure the Fire wouldn’t have a chance to make it 2-0. Drew Conner and Daniel Johnson made a huge impact when they came into the game. Daniel Johnson had a chance to score and was close to making the game 2-0 until defender Nikolai Nass denied Daniel Johnson’s first goal of the season.

The Fire still has a lot to improve on, they need to work on finishing those perfect passes. Chicago Fire had plenty of good chances to make the game a two-goal lead. The Fire needs to finish off those plays because one moment you can be up by one and next it can be a tie game as we saw against Montreal Impact. This was a very tough game for the Fire and a must win, at the end, the Fire got the three points. The Fire are improving and we can see that, it’s just going to take time for them to make it where the Fire fans would like them to be. Next match would be at home Saturday, April 15th against New England Revolution where the Fire would be looking to add another win before they hit the road against Toronto FC.
