The Fire defeated the Eastern Conference leaders the Columbus Crew 1-0. The game was full of drama and passion. One of those matches that kept fans on the edge of their seats, had hearts pounding, finger nail biting nervousness till the final whistle. Tales I am sure will be told and retold down the road. Was this another step in the come back from the brink? The team is beginning to give the fans something that has lacked, a reason to believe, to cheer.

One big reason is the addition of Dax McCarty; the Man of the Match on Saturday. A one man wrecking ball on the pitch, patrolling the midfield, chipping in defense. He provided what could be one the assists of the year, putting a beautiful through ball past 10 Crew players to put Nemanja Nickolic in on goal for the only goal of the game. German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger said about McCarty after the game “He’s great to have behind you. He covers a lot and he also understands the game very well. He knows exactly where to pass the ball. When to turn and when to keep the ball. You can really see that he’s experienced.” High praise given the legend that is Schweinsteiger. McCarty is always one to talk about the team and always looking for more improvement. He is a great leader on the pitch and in the locker room. His leadership along with Schweinsteiger is allowing the Fire to have more possession of the ball, to begin to play as a singular unified team.

It is still very early in a long season, but all signs point to the Fire being a very much improved team. The Fire and the passion will return to Toyota Park. Frustrated Fire fans will once again cheer and announce with pride “I am a Fire fan.” The team and the fans will once again “Stand and deliver.” The team and the fans can start become one “singular Sensation.” It almost seemed destined to be as soon as the Fire acquired Dax McCarty and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
