On May 2 Fire players Bastian Schweinsteiger, Dax McCarty, Juninho and home town boy Drew Connor invaded the Friendly confines of Wrigley field, home of the Cubs. Schweinsteiger threw out the ceremonial first pitch. He received some training from McCarty, who said he thought Bastian “took the safe route.” But Schweinsteiger did get the ball to the catcher. The trio of Schweinsteiger, McCarty and Connor then sang Take Me Out to the Ball Game in the seventh inning stretch, which earned them the “Boy Band” nickname “Daxstreet Boys” They did a good job, but don’t think they will be giving up their day jobs any time soon.

On May 4th Fire players and coaches took to the fashion runway benefitting the Chicago Fire Foundation in their Annual Soccer and style fashion show. No surprise, Schweinsteiger brought out his usual excellent performance. Whether on the pitch or off he is certainly making a splash in his new home. Fellow players David Accam. Arturo Alvarez, Jonathon Campbell, Patrick Doody and Goal Keeper Jorge Bava also showed off their runway skills.

On Saturday May 6th the Fire will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Galaxy. The match will mark an emotional return to his former team for Juninho. Speaking of his return Juninho said “I’m always going to have LA in my heart, but now it’s totally a different situation, where I have to defend the Chicago Fire until the end. That’s what I am going to do” He played for the Galaxy for four seasons helping them win two Supporter Shields and three MLS Cups. He now returns as a member of the Chicago Fire and hopes to return home with three points. The Fire’s biggest task will be stopping the Galaxy attacking trio of Dos Santos, Zardes, and Alessandrini. Alessandrini leads the team with 4 goals, 2 assists, 32 shots, and 12 shots on goal. Defender Brandon Vincent will have to be sharp matched up against this attacking juggernaut. If the Fire are to win this duel they will have to finish more of their chances. The fire created chances in their loss in New York so the team has worked in finishing this week. Can the Fire go out to LA and steals three will be answered late Saturday? It will take a whole team performance, which can only get better and better as this team builds chemistry. So Fire go out and blast away the Galaxy.
