, OH MY! The Fire have a four game winning streak! David Accam has a 5 game scoring streak! Nemanja Nikolic has 11 goals in thirteen games! The Fire recaptured the Brimstone Cup from its Arch Rival FC Dallas with a 2-1 victory on Thursday night. Fire General Manager Nelson Rodriguez spoke of band wagons in a recent media roundtable asking fans to jump aboard. So is this Fire for real? Is it time to dust off instruments and go marching on with a new Fire team that seems to have turned it around? And “Oh My”the Fire are in second place in the Eastern conference and second overall.

The Fire once again dominated possession in the game 53 percent to 46 percent for FC Dallas. The Fire had 83 percent passing accuracy. In the last four games the Fire have scored ten goals and only conceded 2. Thanks to the new strike partnership of Nemanja Nikolic and David Accam. Accam has become the first Fire player to score a goal in five consecutive games. The Fire’s seven wins from thirteen games equals the total number of wins in the 2016 season. The Fire is coming together as a team, improving the mentality of the team as a whole. Defender Matt Polster spoke after the Dallas match about his switch to right Back, “I just want to be a part of the team, I want to be on a winning team and I want to help us win games. Playing wherever, I don’t mind.” Head coach Veljko Paunovic in speaking of the improving Team “I think we still have a long way to go to be the team that can absolutely dominate, dictate the game, control the game and have all the tools to use them, like the possession, when we have to defend, we defend, like today we were tired but we were smart and we knew we had to manage the game. When we have to score goals on set pieces and when we have to show our character. When you have all these pieces I think they decide every game and when you have them all, then you’re going to be for sure capable of winning most of the games.”

Dax McCarty has played every minute of every game so far and his excellent play has captured the notice of USMNT Head Coach Bruce Arena and earned him a call up to the National team for the June friendly match and the world cup qualifiers. Second year Defender Brandon Vincent earned his third straight Team of the week honor. Which is sure to also gain the notice of Arena for the upcoming Gold Cup roster. The Fire will have some rest before going on the road to face Orlando City on the 4th of June. Then return home to face Atlanta, hoping to exact some revenge after the 4-0 loss to them earlier in the season. So can the Fire return to its earlier Glory days? All signs point to yes.
