Oh my, what a game, the Fire defeated Orlando city 4-0 and Accam nets a hat trick and an assist. Lampson and the defense get another clean sheet. The Fire dominated the game from kickoff to the final whistle. Toyota Park saw yet another sell out raucous crowd. The fans and the team are starting to believe this could be a very special season, could they actually win the treble, As Dax McCarty put it “why not us?”

The Fire are beginning to rack up records and impressive stats. Halfway through the season they already have 3 more points than all of last year, and 4 more than the previous year. The Fire are on a seven game home winning streak tying the second longest such streak held by the great 1998 team. They are now unbeaten in nine league matches, 10 if you count the Open Cup win. Toyota Park has become a Fire fortress. Where they are unbeaten in 12, and have lost only once in 25 games. The win was the first over the Orlando city Lions. The Fire have double digit goal scorers for the first time since 2003 when the great Ante Razov and Damani Ralph, in Accam and Nikolic. David Accam accomplished it with his hat trick against Orlando, not to outdone Nemanja Nikolic score his league leading 14th goal assisted by David Accam. Twenty four of the Fire’s 31 goals have been scored by the pair. Accam scored the eighth hat trick in club history. Nemanja Nikolic scored the Fire’s 900th MLS goal. The offensive of the field are not alone, the defense is making its own impact, as they recorded their fifth clean sheet in seven games. Gone seem to be their tendency to concede a last minute goal to draw or lose. German Superstar Bastian Schweinsteiger has certainly made a huge difference in only 14 games on and off the field, he has five assists, but it his desire to win and unselfish attitude is firing up his teammates. There is a brand new passion and intensity that hasn’t been seen in the fire in years.

So could the team that seems to be lock for the comeback team of the year make a huge splash this season, led by my vote for coach of the year Velkjo Paunovic? The Fire continue their quest for their fifth Open Cup in Cincinnati in the round of 16.
