The 26-year-old Ghanaian midfielder has requested to be transferred. David Accam has been a key player for Chicago Fire ever since his arrival in 2014. With his performances in MLS, many Europeans teams have had an eye on Accam. “King” David has had an excellent season having 12 goals and 11 assists this season. David Accam came to the windy city to help Chicago Fire win trophies. Even though the past two season the men in red were nowhere near the playoffs, this season is the other way around. With the new arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Dax McCarty, Juninho, and Nemanja Nikolic, the Fire has been having a great season so far, even if they have not won a game in their past three matches.

So why would David Accam submit a transfer request? Well, Accam and Fire’s head coach, Veljko Paunovic relationship is at a breaking point. Pauno being named the coach for the MLS all-star team and not calling David Accam to the team despite his performances is one cause for this transfer. In the “Goal” Accam states, “ I am disappointed because I think I played well, especially coming from your own coach, it makes it even worse,”. “ I’m disappointed my coach ignored me”. After playing at his best efforts for the club Accam was ignored, and this entirely may be the reason David is asking for his transfer.

David is no longer happy with his stay at the club, but will he stay or leave? Many European, mostly French, clubs have made offers for David Accam, but nothing near what the Fire are willing to accept. David Accam still has one more year left on his contract and no one knows what’s next for his future. Chicago Fire is still negotiating a price for FC Porto’s Juan Quintero. If the Fire does pull off this transfer, they will still have to make some changes to bring Quintero in as a Designated Player. What would David Accam do? Would he set aside his emotions and stay with the club? All Fire fans will always hope he never leaves.
