The White Sox put on a show in Detroit on Thursday afternoon, beating the Tigers 17-7. The offense has been on fire as of late, outscoring their opponents 57-19 in the last six games. The numbers the White Sox put up on Thursday were numbers Sox fans haven’t seen in a long time. 17 runs are the most since scoring 19 on July 3rd, 2012 against the Rangers. The 25 hits were 4 shy of the club record for hits in a game and the most since May 25, 2009 against the Angels, where the offense had 24. Besides the team accomplishments in this game, Yoan Moncada and Avisail Garcia both had career games. The top 4 in the lineup have been incredible in the last 2 weeks and scored 12 out of the 17 runs while combining for 12 RBI against the Tigers. Here’s how the top 4 have been producing:

Tim Anderson

Tim Anderson continued his hot September and silenced his haters once again who say he is not a Major League shortstop. Tim had 7 AB, 3 H, 2 RBI, and 2 R while hitting lead off yesterday. He has shown in the month of September that he belongs at the top of the lineup with a .468 OBP since September 3rd. To go along with his great on base percentage in his last 10 games, he has a .457 AVG with 2 HR and 8 RBI. Anderson has really hit his stride after struggling for a majority of the year and is showing fans why he deserved the 6 year, 25 million dollar extension he signed prior to this season while reminding everyone why he became a fan favorite in his rookie campaign.

Yoan Moncada

Since getting called up, #1 prospect Yoan Moncada has struggled at the plate while also spending some time on the disabled list with shin splints. Although the strikeout rate is high, he has great eyes at the plate and has been laying off pitches out of the zone. He has 24 walks in just 39 games. Since his reinstatement from the DL on September 5th, Yoan has been on fire, posting 2 career games in the same week. He had his first career 3-hit game on September 11th in Kansas City and his 1st career 4 hit game yesterday in Detroit. All of this coming after he changed bats, using the ones Jose Abreu ordered for him. Yesterday against the Tigers, Yoan had 4 hits, a home run, 5 runs, and also drew 2 walks while becoming the 1st White Sox player to reach base 5 times in a game before turning 23 since Frank Thomas did it in 1991. In his last 10, he’s posted a .317 AVG, .417 OBP, and a .512 SLG% while hitting 2 HRs, driving in 6 and walking 6 times.

Jose Abreu

Jose is the most consistent player on the club and arguably has been the most consistent player for the last 4 seasons. He has hit 25+ HR in each season while driving in at least 100 RBI in his 1st 3 seasons and is 5 away from reaching that mark this season. There’s not much to say about how great Jose has done in the last week or so because hes been doing it all year. He hit .395 with a .814 SLG%, 4 HR, and 13 RBI in his last 10 games. He also hit a cycle against San Francisco and came just shy of another one the next night. Yesterday he continued to produce with 4 hits, 2 RBI and 3 runs.

Avisail Garcia

Avi is having a career year and he figured it out just at the right time. His contract is up at the end of the season and his play this year may have won him a extension or a free agency signing with another club worth a good amount of money. He’s hitting .333 with 17 HR and 77 RBI and he continues to pad those stats. To go along with Yoan Moncada’s career game, Avi had his best career game as well. Avi went 5-5 with 7 runs batted in, along with scoring 2 runs himself. He also joins Anderson, Moncada, and Abreu in having an incredible last ten games. He is hitting .439, an .465 OBP, and a .683 SLG% with 3 homers and 13 RBI.

The White Sox who currently have a 59-87 record and are the worst team in the American league yet are still a fun team to watch. That is due to games like the rout of the Tigers yesterday and the individuals at the top of our lineup who are lighting it up. Its fun to watch when the lineup top to bottom produces in a game and that is something we haven’t seen that much this season. It is a great thing to see that despite being 28 games under .500 the team still continues to go out and play hard every game.
