It’s finally here the last day of the MLS regular season. The match day when all 22 teams play on the same day at the same time. In the case of the Eastern conference all playoffs spots are decided, it’s just a matter of seeding, the number one slot and the number 6 spots are already decided, With Toronto in the number one spot and the New York Red Bulls number 6. So it is spots 2-5 that have yet to be decided. The Fire are currently in third place one point under NYCFC in second and one point above Atlanta United in fourth. The Columbus Crew sit in 5th but only three points out of that coveted 2nd place spot. The team finishing in 2nd would get a first round bye and avoid the dreaded knockout winner take all game. I won’t go into all the possible permutations, it would give one a migraine. But suffice it to say the Fire must win the their last match against the Houston Dynamo on the road a place they haven’t won in 9 tries, no pressure there yeah right. If the Fire can get the three points and NYCFC loss or tie would give the Fire second place. If the Fire can’t finish second they need to get either third or fourth place so they can host the play in game, nothing like home field advantage where the Fire have been excellent this year, with 12 wins and only 2 losses and three draws. Ok, enough already with the scenarios I told it would give you a major league headache

The full back twins, Polster and Vincent need to be on their toes, the Dynamo have two speedy wingers Romell Quioto and Alberth Elis who can hurt you if you are not careful. Another big match up will be golden Boot leader Nemanja Nikolic up against Houston GK Tyler Deric, Deric made nine saves in the last game against sporting KC. So can the man nicknamed Niko put another keeper to shame with another Hat trick? He would surely win the Golden Boot, an award given to the league’s top scorer. There is also the matter of the tying the regular season goals record at 27. Both Houston and the Fire finished at the bottom of their conferences last season and have seen quite the turnaround, so with Team will put the cherry on the top of the comeback sundae? We will see come Sunday.

Nemanja Nikolic had himself quite the week, scored a hat trick in the game against Phillie, including the game winning goal, named to the MLS Tam of the Week, player of the week and oh yeah goal of the Week also. So can he keep it up and win himself his third Golden Boot award, in three different leagues. The player we love to call Niko has sure made a difference for the Fire this season. For him it is not about individual accolades, it’s all about the team for him. So buckle in Fire fans it’s sure to be one wild ride to finish out the season, wherever we land it has sure been a heck of a season.
