On December 10, Chicago Fire announced they have traded 32-year-old Salvadorian winger, Arturo Alvarez to Houston Dynamo. Houston Dynamo exchanged their second round pick for the 2019 draft, to add Arturo Alvarez. The 12-year veteran played 25 matches in the 2017 season, only starting in 13 of those. Scoring 3 goals and having three assist. His best season with the Fire was in 2016, where he scored 5 goals and assisted 9 in 30 games.

Alvarez will be joining his home town, Houston, where he will be adding experience onto the attack.
