It was almost as if the Bears coaching staff listened to the frustration of the supporters in the performance v the Bengals on Sunday. Only last week I wrote in my piece that we had to find a way of getting Tarik Cohen involved in our offense on a more regular basis after he only rushed for 5 yards v San Francisco . He has recently taken on more of a role within special teams with his returns being a positive sign but it was pleasing to see the running game looking dangerous after it had looked worryingly flat since the bye. Tarik Cohen rushed for 80 yards whilst Jordan Howard stole the show with his 147 yards and 2 touchdowns.

It wasn’t just the running game that showed signs of promise this week. I feel I am one of many supporters frustrated that Adam Shaheen hasn’t had a bigger role in the team since Zach Miller got his season-ending injury against the New Orleans Saints in week 8. Shaheen had 4 receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown and there is genuine reason for hope that Shaheen can become a big player for the Bears in the coming years. Shaheen is an incredible athlete at 6 foot 6 and 270 pounds, he is a real physical threat that the Bears have been sorely lacking.

The Bears have had a lot of disappointments this season but Sunday showed a silver lining and an insight into what the future can hold. I have previously mentioned the impressive performances of Cohen and Shaheen and there is little to write about Jordan Howard that hasn’t been said before. However, after a period of limited production he bounced back with 147 yards from 23 rushes and 2 touchdowns. He also became the first Bear in franchise history to rush for over 1,000 yards in his first 2 seasons. He is a remarkable player and with Cohen potentially taking on more of an involvement in the running game it offers the Bears variety and the ability to keep Howard fresh.

The final player who deserves credit is Mitch Trubisky, he has had a tricky run in the side with the Bears barely throwing the ball in his first few games but he looked a lot more accomplished and helped the side dominate the game. The bears had over 38 minutes in possession and he completed 25 of 32 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown. He also ran in a touchdown. In fact he now has 78% pass completion over the past 2 weeks which demonstrates his growing confidence.

It is nice to be able to write some positives about the Bears after a run of disappointing weeks since the bye and with players like Cohen, Shaheen, Howard and Trubisky there is a small core of offensive weapons that can only help to bring the Bears back to being a relevant team in the NFL. Now let’s ensure we can find a coach for next season which can bring the best out of this quartet.
