On Wednesday Chicago Fire strengthened the midfield, bringing in 28-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Tony Tchani. Vancouver Whitecaps received $150,000 in TAM (Targeted Allocation Money) in return. In 2017 Tony Tchani was traded from Columbus Crew to Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for Kekuta Manneh. That season Tchani went to start 26 regular season matches, scoring 4 goals and having 1 assist.
Tchani will help Strengthen the midfield, an area that Head Coach Pauno and Nelson Rodriguez were focused on. Also with Rookie Mo Adams already having Dax, Bastian and now Tony Tchani this will be great for Mo Adams to have these players to look up to and help improve.
Now with the Fire adding Tchani in the midfield, there’s still areas in the lineup that can be improved. The Fire still are in need of a playmaker, and since the departure of Joao Meira, Chicago are yet to add in another defender. Chicago Fire are still tied to many rumors. Nelson Rodriguez had said He’d get the last laugh of the transfer window, and even though Tony Tchani came in as a surprise, Nelson might have something else up his sleeves.
Chicago Fire will have their first match of the regular season Saturday, March 10. Where the Men in Red will be defending at home against Sporting Kansas City.
