Fresh off the heels of taking 3 out of 4 games against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, the Cubs are heading to the Friendly Confines for the first time in 2018.  Their early season, 11 day and 9 game road trip (it should have been 10 games if not for a rainout in Cincinnati) resulted in a 5-4 record which, according to baseball logic, is nothing to complain about.  There were times when it felt like the team might never score another run or that Kyle Schwarber might never field a ball cleanly out in left field, but the Northsiders survived and now get rewarded with a 9 game homestand.

The Cubs will open the 2018 home season with 3 games against another division foe, the Pittsburgh Pirates, on Monday, April 9th at 1:20 Central time.  After unloading veteran talent such as Andrew McCutchen and Gerrit Cole, the Pirates were thought to be heading into a rebuilding year in 2018.  However, the Buccos have started 7-2 and sit atop the National League Central a week and a half into the season.

After the Pirates leave town, the Cubs will face the Atlanta Braves in a weekend series and then end the homestand with three games against the rival St. Louis Cardinals.  Over the next 10 days, the Cubs will have the luxury of sleeping in their own beds and playing in front of adoring fans at the corner of Clark and Addison.  They will get to enjoy the pageantry of Opening Day at Wrigley Field and hopefully get to hear the fans sing Go Cubs Go a whole lot during that time and all season long.
