Please please please accept my apology, Daniel Murphy. I simply had no idea that you would one day play for the Chicago Cubs and just how good you would be once you did.
Carrie Muskat recently wrote this article and pointed out that the Cubs are undefeated since you arrived: http://www.mlb.com/cubs/news/daniel-murphy-sparks-cubs-in-sweep-of-reds/c-292024634
I felt really bad after reading it.
I only knew how horrible you had been for my team in recent years. The fantastic success that you enjoyed against the Chicago Cubs also meant a great deal of pain for Cubs fans and, because of that, I hated you for it. I may have even said bad things about you in the past, and maybe your lineage as well. I would like to apologize to you.
And to your relatives. And to some of your ancestors.
I hope that you can forgive me and focus on preparing for the stretch drive in the 2018 season. I really started to believe in this trade when I read your numbers playing against the Cubs at Wrigley Field (.467/.484/.833). Eye popping. But I was officially sold when Ben Zobrist exclaimed, “We got Daniel Murphy? That’s awesome!” If Ben Zobrist is willing to vouch for you, then that’s good enough for me, Daniel Murphy.
I hope you can forgive me and that we can move forward. I am glad that you are on our team, and I wish you much success going forward… as long as you are wearing the correct laundry.
