Early this morning, there is said to be a deal in place to send defensive star Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears, in exchange for a package that includes 2019 and 2020 first round picks. I wrote an article earlier this week on why the Bears should trade for Mack, and to be honest, I didn’t think it would happen, but here we are. Adding Mack to this team, I think, definitely makes them better than the Packers, and some other NFC Wild Card contenders like the Panthers and 49ers. If Trubisky does hit this season, which I think he will, this will truly go down as a steal for the Bears.

Pace finally did it. Three years into this rebuild, Pace believes in this core enough to surrender the near future, and I’m all in. The Bears have the following players that are 27 or younger: Khalil Mack, Taylor Gabriel, Kyle Fuller, Trey Burton, Cody Whitehair, Charles Leno, Eddie Jackson, Adrian Amos, Allen Robinson, Leonard Floyd, Eddie Goldman, Mitch Trubisky, Jordan Howard, Adam Shaheen, Tarik Cohen, Anthony Miller, Roquan Smith, and James Daniels. What a young core Pace has put together in a rather short amount of time. Not to mention the group of veterans he has put together like Akeem Hicks, Danny Trevathan, Prince Amukamara, and Kyle Long. I truly can not believe how quickly this team has come together on paper. This is now a top 5 defense with the addition of Mack, and the sky’s the limit for this offense with the new acquisitions and an offensive-minded head coach in Matt Nagy.

I think the Bears’ chances of being a Wild Card in the NFC have catapulted after the Mack acquisition. I see the two wild card teams in the NFC being the Falcons or Saints (whichever one doesn’t win the NFC South), and the Bears. Maybe the NFC North produces three playoff teams this season, who knows. This move has made the tough NFC that much tougher. There are gonna be some teams that miss the playoffs in the NFC that could make it to the AFC Championship. The discrepancy between conferences has grown that much over just one offseason.

The Bears really are doing what other teams with young QBs are doing, like the Rams and Eagles. They are loading up on playmakers while they don’t have to pay their quarterback. It makes total sense. The Eagles won a Super Bowl doing this!

While I can see why a fan would be upset that we gave up two first round picks, we just landed what I think is the best defensive player in the NFL. I am a guy to covet picks a lot more than others, but when you believe in your core enough to win, you flip those picks for superstars on the market like Mack. Blockbuster deals don’t happen often in the NFL, but when they do, it is so exciting, especially when it’s for your favorite team. This will cost a ton of money to extend Mack, maybe even more than what Donald got yesterday, but when we see the results, it will go down as one of the biggest steals in NFL history.
