I am in shock. This morning, the Blackhawks announced that head coach Joel Quenneville has been relieved of his duties.
The Chicago Blackhawks have relieved Joel Quenneville of his coaching duties and have named Jeremy Colliton the 38th head coach in franchise history.

Gone with him are assistant coaches Kevin Dineen and Ulf Samuelsson. Rockford IceHogs coach Jeremy Colliton has been named head coach along with Barry Smith (previously a member of the Blackhawks Hockey Operations staff) as an assistant coach.
Aside from some strong language directed at Stan Bowman, I currently cannot find the proper words to describe my feelings on the situation. Plenty of Twitter users have sounded off on the matter, so I have gathered a number of reactions in an attempt to sum up the current pulse of Blackhawks Nation.
Tab Bamford chimes in on the timing of the announcement.
This cannot be stated in bold enough.

The crew at Four Feathers states where they think the blame for the current state of the Blackhawks falls.

Chris Kuc agrees that Q shouldn’t be the one at fault.
The Blackhawks’ decline in recent seasons wasn’t on Joel Quenneville.

Brent Block sees an opening for Quenneville to return to a struggling St. Louis team to stick it to the Blackhawks.
Q will be hired by St. Louis when they inevitably fire Yeo.

Jeff Osborn throws more blame on Bowman.
I’ve had my huge questions about Quenneville over the years, but his record and tenture speak volumes. Bowman not giving him the pieces he needs to win with his system is almost criminal. Ward? Manning? Kunitz? If I were Q, I would have begged to be let go. #Blackhawks

Former Blackhawk Daniel Carcillo didn’t mince words while unloading on the front office.
The firing of #Quenneville is nothing more than John McDonough, Stan Bowman & Al MacIsaac’s (Hockey Operations) desperate attempt to save their jobs.
There has always been tension between Joel & the above men mentioned.
Barry Smith is best friends with Scotty Bowman #Blackhawks

Mark Potash offers some perspective on a team with similar circumstances.
Just for reference, John Stevens lasted 95 games as the replacement for Darryl Sutter. After giving the Kings an initial bump — they made the playoffs last year — he was fired Sunday after going 4-8-1 this season. The Kings and Blackhawks ruled the NHL most of this decade.

Our own Ron Luce looks forward to seeing what Colliton can bring to the table.
FWIW, #Blackhawks fans should not be mad or angered at Jeremy Colliton. Look at what he did with Rockford last season. In house, he’s the best candidate if it wasn’t Q.

We will share our thoughts and many more reactions when we record Episode 8 of the Four Feathers Podcast tonight, so look for a Q-centered show tomorrow.
