Bulls Making All the Right Moves
So far this has been one of the best Bulls offseasons in recent memory.
No, the Bulls were never in the mix to sign a Kevin Durant or Kawhi Leonard. Pretty unrealistic expectations for a team that only won 22 games last season! But instead of a superstar, the Bulls are signing role players that compliment their young core. Players who not only can play multiple positions but can also defend them as well.

On the first day of free agency, the Bulls signed free agent forward, Thaddeus Young.
Young is a great fit for the Bulls, as he brings a veteran presence to the NBA’s youngest team. He will be a great teammate and mentor for Lauri Markkanen, as well as Wendell Carter Jr. Young is not only reliable on the offensive end, but he is a solid defender, who doesn’t mind doing all of the dirty work.
Young’s ability to play at either forward spot provides Jim Boylen various lineup choices that he can roll out. Any combination of Young, Markkanen, Carter or Otto Porter Jr., provides the Bulls with a lethal frontcourt.

The Bulls completed a sign and trade with the Washington Wizards for a guard, Tomas Satoransky.
Sato was the Wizards starting point guard, for the 2nd half of last season, due to John Wall’s injury. Sato is a pass first player, who should do a great job in making sure that Markkanen and Zach Lavine get the touches they need on the offensive end.
Sato’s ability to play off the ball will work extremely well in the backcourt alongside Lavine, and his size at 6’7 allows the Bulls to slot him at either guard spot, or at small forward. His defense should also be able to shield Lavine’s lapses on that end of the floor, and his decision making makes him the perfect fit to help develop Bulls draft pick Coby White.

The Bulls also signed free agent center, Luke Kornet.
Kornet is a 7’1 stretch 5, that automatically gives the Bulls an upgrade over Cristiano Felicio. Kornet is a terrific 3 point shooter for his size, giving the Bulls another player that provides spacing for Markkanen and Lavine. Kornet is also a solid defender and a good rim protector. At only 23 years old he has a considerable amount of upside.
These players aren’t the flashiest of names, but they address all of the needs the Bulls had heading into next season. The Bulls now have a team equipped to play in today’s position-less, fast-paced NBA. If everything goes to plan, and the Bulls win some games, Chicago could become a top free agent destination for the superstars of the league.
While that remains to be seen, the Bulls are certainly headed in the right direction.
