Meet Mitchell Trubisky’s Replacement: Cam Newton
Mitchell Trubisky is the current quarterback of the Chicago Bears. That is not gonna cut it for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. The Trubisky experiment has flopped. His mysterious hip injury makes it even more clear that he isn’t the guy.
The Bears need to make quarterback priority #1 this offseason. There are multiple guys the Bears can target, but one, in particular, stands out.
His name is Cam Newton
The bottom line, Cam Newton would be a much better fit in Chicago than Mitchell Trubisky. Newton, the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, has been a franchise quarterback for the Carolina Panthers since being drafted. When at his peak, Newton is a guy that can lead the Bears to a Super Bowl.
With this roster, if the Bears had just about any other QB under center, they would be three or four wins better. Although Trubisky is a good athlete and very mobile, Newton is more mobile. At 6’5 250 pounds, Newton possesses the fantastic size to run Matt Nagy’s offense. With Trubisky at quarterback, Nagy has to scale back the playbook big time. That’s why the Bears offense seems so predictable more often than not.
With a quarterback who knows the game like Newton under center, this wouldn’t be a problem for Chicago. The offense would be able to run the way it’s supposed to. With a quarterback like Newton in the fold, this offense would finally reach its high ceiling. Also, Cam Newton would reportedly welcome a trade to Chicago.

Unfortunately, Mitchell Trubisky has been a bad quarterback in 2019, and quite frankly, he’s been bad for the majority of his NFL career. Even during the Bears stellar 2018 season where they went 12-4, Trubisky continually missed throws that average NFL quarterbacks have to make. The Bears vaunted defense carried the team to many of the wins in 2018. But now in 2019, the true weaknesses on offense have surfaced. The Mitch Trubisky experiment is over in Chicago. Getting Cam Newton to Chicago
Getting Cam Newton on this Bears roster is much easier said than done. Considering he is still a franchise quarterback, it will cost the Bears some highly valued assets to acquire him. The Bears are without a first-round pick in 2020 due to the Khalil Mack trade, which makes this deal much harder. The Bears have the following picks in the 2020 NFL Draft: 2nd, 2nd (via OAK), 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th, 6th, 7th.
Here are some potential trade deals that the Bears could consider to acquire Cam Newton.
2nd round pick (Bears) and Prince Amukamara
This trade could very well happen, as a second-round pick for a soon to be 31-year-old quarterback seems like a fair trade. The Bears also shed Amukamara’s expiring contract. The Panthers have recently invested a couple of second-round picks in cornerbacks Donte Jackson and James Bradberry, but having a veteran journeyman like Amukamara around can help those guys develop quicker. This trade seems like a win for both sides.
2nd round pick (Bears) and 2nd round pick (via OAK)
It’s more likely that the Bears trade one second-round pick along with a veteran for Cam. However, the Bears could also get the deal done by trading both of their 2020 second-round picks. Considering how little draft capital they already have, trading only one second would be ideal. Perhaps this is what Chicago may have to do to secure a better quarterback in 2020.
Chicago needs a new quarterback and Cam Newton would make the most sense as a replacement for Mitchell Trubisky. Now it just comes down to the front office deciding to go and get him.
The Bears need to make this move to salvage their Super Bowl window and this phenomenal defense. The clock is ticking.
