After a spectacular Summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo with the threat of the pandemic and no spectators in the stands, this year’s Olympics was a success.
But, now, the same challenges face the Winter Olympics in China in the next six months.
With the pandemic the main focus and the rate of vaccinations worldwide, it’ll be a challenge.
It will be interesting how this will work cross country, but another question is up in the air, should the National Hockey League join the Winter Olympics in Beijing in February 2022?
The answer is absolutely; the amount of talent the National Hockey League has is second to none, but it will also be a great opportunity to grow hockey worldwide on the biggest stage in sports.
Another aspect to look at during the Winter Olympics and if the National Hockey League joins them this February, all eyes will be on Team Canada and Team USA. USA Hockey has grown the game of hockey massively in the United States over the years, and the talent they have is also second to none, and if the NHL joins, it will be electrifying.
Who would be on Team USA if the league joins the Winter Olympics in February?
With the talent the NHL and Team USA have, it will be a competitive and entertaining training camp. The talent starts with Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, and another forward Alex DeBrincat, along with New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes, and Toronto Maple Leafs Center, Austin Matthews, solid defensemen like Chicago Blackhawks’ Seth Jones and Connor Murphy, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes, and Boston Bruins’ Charlie McAvoy. On the back end, goaltenders Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets and John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks.
Along with Team USA and USA Hockey, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been blessed and fortunate to have legend head coaches to coach them too, and it starts with Legendary head coach Herb Brooks, to recent head coach Mike Sullivan.
If the league joins the Winter Olympics as it is programmed in the 2021-2022 schedule, although it may not be true, some players feel it may be their last chance to play or be part of the Olympics as a whole.
The National Hockey League should join the Winter Olympics in Beijing because it is a golden opportunity to grow hockey and bring it to more levels than where it is currently.
Legendary Team USA coach Herb Brooks once said, “Great moments are born from great opportunity.”
