The Bulls clinched the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference on Tuesday, avoiding the play-in game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Orlando Magic 120-115 Tuesday night, so the Bulls have clinched the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

The Bulls are currently on a three-game losing streak and only have two games left in the season. Chicago continues to struggle against elite Eastern Conference teams and are 1-14 against the top-four seeds in the East.

The Bulls have played the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, and the Boston Celtics in the last three games, all top seeds in the Eastern Conference. In those three games, the Bulls lost by an average of 21 points.

The Bulls have struggled since the All-Star break, going 7-14 since the game in Cleveland.

Bulls’ All-Star shooting guard Zach Lavine comments on the Bulls’ struggles.

“We look like a totally different team right now,” Lavine said. “And it’s upsetting…Offensively and defensively, we’re disconnected right now.”

Lavine has been added back to the injured list with a knee injury. He missed the Bucks’ game in Chicago but played against the Celtics the next night and struggled. Lavine finished 2-9 from the field, scoring seven points and adding four assists.

The Bulls received additional unfortunate news a few weeks before the 2022 playoffs start. Point guard Lonzo Ball will miss the rest of the season, including the playoffs.

Ball hasn’t played since January 14th and had surgery in late January to repair a meniscus tear. Ball remained on the injured list longer than the Bulls’ expected, and he suffered setbacks after revamping the knee.

The Bulls will enter the 2022 playoffs as either the fifth or the sixth seed and will play either the Heat, Bucks, Celtics, or the 76ers in the first round.

The Bulls have struggled against all four of these teams. Billy Donovan may decide to rest the starters for the playoffs or he may use them to try to get the fifth seed. In order to get the fifth seed, the Bulls will have to win out and the Toronto Raptors would have to lose out.

The Bulls will enter the first round as underdogs while performing at the lowest level of the entire season.
