The Bulls’ 2022 season ended in the first round of the 2022 playoffs–a 4-1 series loss against the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks.

The season ended poorly, with three straight losses of 20+ points, two of which were at the United Center. Despite the unfortunate end, one thing is certain: the Bulls are back. They made it back to the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

The Bulls were in first place in the eastern conference for much of the season. Injuries struck the Bulls at the worst times during the season.

Bulls fans barely got to see Patrick Williams in his sophomore season, Alex Caruso went down with a scary wrist injury, Lonzo Ball missed the last section of the season and the playoffs, and Zach Lavine battled knee injuries all season. Overall, the Bulls played well this season, despite the team’s hardships.

The Bulls’ front office has important questions to answer during the season. The future of Zach Lavine and the Bulls is at the forefront of the offseason.

The question Bulls fans and the front office will debate during the offseason: is Zach Lavine worth a max contract. In short, yes, he is. There are serious concerns regarding his knee issues. His left knee has been a consistent concern during his career. However, when Lavine is on the court, which he is for most games, he’s a top scorer in the league. In addition, as the season progressed, his defense improved drastically and he is an elite playmaker as well. Lavine on his future with the Bulls:

“I plan to enjoy free agency. We’re going to have to experience A through Z without making any fast decisions. I think that’s something me and [agent Rich Paul] are going to go through and experience

The Bulls need to use the momentum from this season to improve for next season. The addition of a healthy Lonzo Ball will help a ton, but the Bulls need add more players like him.

One of the main reasons the Bulls fell in the first round: role players for the Bucks dominated in the series, hit open shots, and took advantage of all minutes on the court.
