The Chicago Bears report signing 39th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, CB out of the University of Washington Kyler Gordon, to his rookie deal.
As per usual the earlier draft picks are the last to sign, and Gordon was one of only 2 of the Bears picks not yet under contract prior to the announcement this weekend. Gordon was the Bears first selection in this past draft and one that really excited the coaching staff and those involved in the draft process.
Everyone from Eberflus down to defensive backs coach James Rowe have voiced their praise for the young corner and his natural abilities on the field. Coaches have cited Gordon’s phenomenal ball skills as a specific point they look forward in seeing him to bring to this revamped Chicago football team. As stated by coach Eberflus upon his hiring, takeaways are a very key part of what he envisions from his Bears, and that’s clearly something he and his staff think Kyler Gordon adds to the defense.
Those within the Bears’s office aren’t the only ones excited either. Many fans, including myself, are eager to see Gordon fill that CB2 spot across from Jaylon Johnson hopefully creating a young, talented, and athletic secondary the team has really lacked since 2018.
With this move now announced by the team the last domino to fall into place from the 2022 Draft class will be safety Jaquan Brisker, but until then the Kyler Gordon signing brings the Chicago Bears one step closer to the vision they saw coming out of the draft.
