The Results of the Nikola Vucevic Trade

The NBA draft lottery saw the Chicago Bulls’ first-round pick conveyed to the Orlando Magic as a part of the Nikola Vucevic trade with the Orlando Magic. The Orlando Magic will hold the 11th pick in the draft and their first-round pick at 6th overall. The Bulls exchanged Wendell Carter jr and two first-round picks as the main pieces for Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline in 2021.

One of the two first-round picks ended up being Franz Wagner, who played great in his first two NBA seasons. Wendell Carter Jr has stepped up his play and solidified himself as a starting center in the NBA on the Magic. While it remains to be seen how the player selected with the 11th pick turns out, the Magic got the better of the Bulls in this deal.

Off-Season Outlook

The Chicago Bulls hold no draft picks in the first or second round of the upcoming 2023 NBA draft. The Bulls must trade their way into the draft if they are interested in a prospect. The front office will have to key in on free agency to fill their needs. The roster needs are finding a starting point guard, adding premier shooting, and deciding on re-signing Nikola Vucevic.

The front office must also choose between keeping the big 3 of LaVine, DeRozan, and Vucevic or breaking the team up.

Some front office members reportedly want to wait for the return of Lonzo Ball and keep the team roster similar until then. This would be a terrible decision by the front office. No one knows if Lonzo Ball will ever be able to play basketball again; operating on the hope that he does is not the right move.

While it is unknown how predominant the front office members mentioned in this report are, this should not be the Bulls’ approach this offseason.

Unfortunately, the Chicago Bulls will not receive any lottery luck in an off-season that could make or break the team.

Arturas Karnisovas and the front office must build a roster that can consistently knock down shots from beyond the arch: a key to winning in the modern-day NBA.
