What’s in Store for the White Sox in 2026?
I know, it’s only the second week of August and there’s still plenty of action left in the 2025 MLB regular season but when you sit at the bottom of your division and can only hope that DoorDash will bring you some food in the American League cellar, the only thing you can think of right now is “wait until next season.”
For some big league ball clubs, 2026 will be their year to make a run at the postseason. However, some MLB organizations are just hoping to hit the magic .500 level, and for some teams, that’s a definite sign of progress.
Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and Major League clubs don’t become winning organizations overnight either.
Will GM Chris Getz Make Any Major Free Agent Moves in the Off-Season?
That’s literally the million-dollar question at this point. The White Sox didn’t turn out to be significant head-turners at the MLB trade deadline a few weeks ago, but did make some strategic moves. The reality is the Pale Hose, at least on paper, seems to be putting together a solid roster for the foreseeable future.
Now, don’t go out trying to buy World Series tickets for October 2026 on the South Side.
If anything, you’ll be watching the Fall Classic from the comfort of your living room couch or at your favorite local sports bar. There are, however, signs of imminent improvement in the White Sox front office, and time will tell if the wheeling and dealing (or lack thereof) this past month will pay dividends for the White Sox down the road.
The White Sox Outfield Looks to Stay Put Through the 2026 Season
The key trade that didn’t happen this season for the White Sox is the unloading of center fielder Luis Robert Jr. on a playoff contender. While a number of teams reportedly were interested in the mercurial outfielder, Robert will be with the Pale Hose at least through 2026 as the Sox front office looks to pick up his $20 million club option for next season (with an additional option for 2027). With the vast improvement at the plate and on the base paths in the cards for Luis Robert Jr., it’s unlikely that the White Sox will make any sudden off-season trades for their top outfielder.
In addition, fellow outfielders Andrew Benintendi and Mike Tauchman will also stay put for the near future, and combined with Luis Robert Jr., the Sox look to shore up their outfield both defensively and at the plate for the 2026 season. The Austin Slater trade last month to the Yankees was both a matter of expediency for the Bronx Bombers and a signal that the White Sox front office believes in their starting outfield at the point and into the next season.
Fans Shouldn’t Expect Many Changes in the White Sox Battery Next Season
When things are working, why try to find a way to break them? In the case of the White Sox pitcher-catcher battery, things are actually coming to fruition behind the plate as the dynamic duo of Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero seems to be working out as a force of stability behind the dish. Combined with a solid starter pitching rotation, the White Sox have at least a semblance of stability on the mound heading into next season.
Pitching prospects such as Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith could also add more depth to the Sox pitching staff either by the end of the season with a September call-up or next year in spring training. Southpaws Schultz and Smith are developing at the proper pace at AAA Charlotte and AA Birmingham, respectively, and Noah Schultz, standing between 6’9″ and 6’10”, could be the next reincarnation of fellow lefty Hall of Famer Randy Johnson and possibly fight for a spot in the starting rotation heading into 2026.
In essence, patience is a virtue, and White Sox skipper Will Venable has shown both patience, creativity, and a spark of improvement, which could lead to a turnaround for this organization heading into the next season.
