Caleb Williams Has His To-Do List This Offseason
Caleb Williams had a lot on his plate this past season.
Having felt the tumultuous life of being an NFL quarterback, especially one in Chicago, bad coaching and overall lack of structure played a role in what was supposed to be a turning point for the Franchise.
Tremendous Season by the 2nd Year Signal Caller
In came Ben Johnson, meaning Williams had to learn his 3rd new offense in 3 seasons.
Williams gave Chicago reason for hope with all his late-game heroics, out-of-this-world plays, and growth in areas like leadership. He passed Erik Kramer to lay his mark as the all-time Bears passing leader for a single season at 3,942 yards. However, he fell short of that 4k yard mark, so it’s definitely a milestone he will look to break for next season.
Still, even with all the great optimism and play he provided, this was far from what Williams can become. Accuracy plagued the Bears’ offense, yet they remained a top-10 unit for the vast majority of the season. Sure, it wasn’t all with his accuracy like the drops and miscommunications, but Williams, being the QB, will take up the blame, as that is what the Face of the Franchise does.
Offseason To-Do List
It is no secret what the young signal caller wanted to work on going into his 3rd year and second under Ben Johnson: Accuracy and Footwork.
The whole base of a Quarterback and their play can be determined by how good their own two feet are in the pocket. So it makes sense as to why Williams wants to fix these two areas of his game.
The Bears’ offense was very good but inconsistent at times. Sure, that is also due to having a very young group, but the quarterback does need to shoulder the blame for those inconsistencies.
The League Should Be Worried
The pairing of Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams worked wonders for many Bears fans. Still, both have so much to grow in their respective positions. That should be absolutely terrifying for the rest of the league.
If Williams’ baseline is as follows: 3, 942 yards, 27 TDs, 7 INTs, then we can only imagine what it looks like when the mistakes get ironed out.
No, I am not predicting that the Bears are about to start the next great ‘Dynasty,’ but the Bears becoming relevant is only good for the rest of the league.
The numbers in viewership support that, as every time the Bears get into a primetime slot, magic happens. The Bears could be looking at multiple primetime games, including a potential season opener versus the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.
Nevertheless, the Bears have a lot to build on, or as Ben Johnson put it, be aggressive in wanting more, because next year is next year.
Caleb Williams has become the unicorn that many predicted.
Now it’s on him to finish the magic with the sharpening of those feet.
