Pete Crow-Armstrong Is ON FIRE
In a time where the Cubs have been struggling, the same cannot be said for Pete Crow-Armstrong. Over the last two weeks, the Chicago Cubs have won only five games.
Over that same time span, Pete Crow-Armstrong has nineteen hits, five of which are home runs, and a 1.185 OPS.
To put that in perspective, the league average for OPS (on base plus slugging) is currently .712.
Crow-Armstrong has been on fire recently and has been one of the few bright spots during this rough patch of Cubs baseball.
Over the past fourteen games, the Cubs have scored fifty-four runs. PCA has ten runs batted in in those games. Pete Crow-Armstrong has been producing a large portion of the Cubs’ offense, and it can especially be seen through his power. On the season thus far, he has eleven home runs, and in the last two weeks, he has five. This surge of power has not only been nice for Crow-Armstrong’s statistics, but it has been a saving grace for the Cubs.
For example, yesterday the Cubs edged out the Giants in extra innings by a score of three to two. Pete Crow-Armstrong had a game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. These long balls weren’t cheap home runs either; they were each home runs in all thirty ballparks, and both had an exit velocity over one hundred miles per hour.
Yesterday’s contest was an embodiment of how PCA has been swinging the bat amid the Cubs’ struggles. In a game where the Cubs had eight total hits as a team, Crow-Armstrong had four of them. On top of that, although the Cubbies won three to two, PCA actually had all of the team’s runs batted in with two due to the costly error from the Giants in extra innings. Crow-Armstrong has given Cubs fans optimism during a time when there hasn’t been a lot to cheer for. He has shown that even though the Cubs may be struggling now, he is a generational talent who will be in a Cubs uniform for a very long time.
Another really interesting aspect of Pete’s success in 2026 is his splits against right- and left-handed pitchers. A season ago, Crow-Armstrong had just a .594 OPS against lefties, and this year that number has increased to .813, which is above the league average by a comfortable margin. This points to Pete Crow-Armstrong’s maturity as a Major League hitter. This is now quite the advantage for the Cubs as a whole because it puts the opposition in a really tough spot with how to approach PCA. It’s a pick-your-poison sort of situation; he can attack pitchers regardless of their handedness.
Although the Cubs have been in a difficult spot as of late, Pete Crow-Armstrong is sure giving fans a reason to smile.
The run he is on is something special, and it will be one that hopefully repeats itself many times during his Cubs tenure.
