City of Chicago Proclaims June 25th as “Horace Grant Day”
One of the most beloved champions in Chicago sports history is receiving one of the city’s highest honors.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has officially proclaimed June 25, 2026, as “Horace Grant Day” throughout the City of Chicago, recognizing the former Chicago Bulls star and four-time NBA champion for his championship legacy, enduring contributions to the rich legacy of Chicago sports, and positive impact on communities throughout the city and beyond.
“On behalf of the City, I am proud to celebrate Chicago’s own Horace Grant and recognize his legacy and lasting impact on our communities,” said Mayor Johnson.
“Horace Grant helped build one of the greatest dynasties in sports history and became part of Chicago’s identity through his determination and spirit. On Horace Grant Day, we celebrate a champion who continues to inspire and uplift our city’s young people, demonstrating his excellence on and off the court.”
“I’m deeply honored and humbled to receive this recognition from the City of Chicago,” said Grant.
“This city embraced me, supported me, and helped shape my life. The championships were special, but the relationships I’ve built with the people of Chicago over the years are what I cherish most. I’m grateful for this recognition and proud to forever be connected to a city that has given me so much.”
Drafted by the Bulls at No. 10 overall in the 1987 draft, Grant became a cornerstone of the team’s first championship three-peat from 1991 to 1993, helping define an era that transformed Chicago into one of the most iconic dynasties in professional sports history. Known for his relentless work ethic, leadership, and trademark goggles, he remains one of the most respected figures associated with the franchise.
Following his successful tenure in Chicago, Grant continued to make his mark across the NBA, playing key roles with the Orlando Magic, Seattle SuperSonics, and Los Angeles Lakers. He helped lead the Magic to the 1995 NBA Finals and later returned to championship glory by winning his fourth NBA title with the Lakers in 2001.
Since 2016, Grant has served as a Special Advisor to Chicago Bulls President and Chief Operating Officer Michael Reinsdorf. In this front-office role, he acts as a global ambassador for the franchise. His primary focus is connecting with fans, corporate partners, and civic groups to grow the team’s community presence.
In 2025, Grant was formally inducted into the Chicago Bulls Ring of Honor, further solidifying his place among the franchise’s all-time greats.
Beyond basketball, Grant has devoted himself to uplifting young people and supporting charitable initiatives, using his platform to inspire and mentor future generations to pursue education, discipline, and personal excellence.
Celebration Planned at Reggie’s Rock Club
The proclamation will be celebrated during a special birthday event honoring Grant on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Reggie’s Rock Club (2105 S. State Street, Chicago, IL 60616). Doors open at 8 PM. The show starts at 9 PM.
Hosted by Urban Grind TV, the celebration will feature appearances by current and former NBA players and sports personalities, special performances, a LIVE TAPING of Grant’s new television series Legends in Session with Horace Grant, and more.
“This is going to be a powerful celebration of sports, music, culture, legacy, and Chicago greatness,” said Urban Grind TV executive producer Wally Lockard III, who will emcee the evening.
