The Necessary Emergence of Patrick Williams

Last season was not what Bulls fans had hoped to see from Patrick Williams in his sophomore season after a satisfying summer league performance.

Unfortunately for the Bulls, Williams went down with a wrist injury that caused him to miss nearly the entire season.

This season, the presence and improvement of Patrick Williams is vital to the success that the Chicago Bulls can have this season.

What Does Patrick Williams Bring to The Bulls?

Patrick Williams has shown the quality & traits that top defenders in the NBA carry. He has also shown flashes of being able to create his own mid-range shot on the offensive side of the game. Williams has been able to knock down catch and shoot 3-point shots consistently shooting 39% from three-point range in his rookie season, and 52.9% last season, but the sample size is small.

The Bulls need Patrick Williams to hone in on his skills to look to create his own shot. When Williams shares the floor with the other Bulls starters, he seems to be less aggressive and defers to them far too often. The Bulls rested key starters on their final game of the regular season against the Timberwolves last season where Patrick Williams showed his capabilities by recording his career high of 35 points shooting 10-21 from the field, and 60% from three. Post game, Patrick Williams stated, “I just play. Like I’ve been saying for two years now, anything the team needs to win, I’m all for it.”

Well Patrick, this performance may not be consistently repeatable, but this level of aggression is exactly what the team needs to win.
